ARTIST NORMAN LONG

Norman Long BA (Fine Art), Newcastle; Post Baccalaureate, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.

Winner of the 2010 de Laszlo Foundation Prize at the Royal Society of Portrait Painters. Winning portrait of Walter Long (right) on view at the Mall Galleries until 21st May 2010

Norman Long has established a reputation among the foremost figurative artists in the UK. His oil portraits have twice been featured in the BP portrait award and Royal Society of Portrait Painters exhibitions and most recently he was awarded the coveted de Laszlo Award for portraiture for his portrait of Walter Long (right).

ARTIST JANET SAMSON

Janet Samson MA Leeds University, Born 1940 in Blackburn Lancashire there is no doubting this Lancasire Artists personal exploration of her art:- paint and painting; her artist statement reads; "The tonal arrangement of a work is a primary concern; this makes abstract forms within the figurative painting. Similarities in the structure of shapes can create duality and ambiguous meaning. Portraiture from life is a relatively small but important part of my work. Ongoing themes are journeys, towns and landscapes, interiors, cloth and clothes and social situations. Everything that janet produces is informed by observed sketches then adapted by memory, imagination and the occasional photograph.

ARTIST ROB MILLER

Born in 1954 Rob Miller has been involved in the visual and performing arts in Education across all age ranges for many years, establishing a number of community art galleries, studios and projects; in Liverpool Gloucester and Greater Manchester. as well as in developing his own obvious talents for painting and music. In the 90's he was awarded a merit in the Bolton Art Gallery, Annual Art Circle Exhibition which encouraged him to participate in a Diploma in Art and Design, gaining a distinction in the Painting and Drawing modules; Rob Miller has exhibited widely, currently showing work in 2010 in Chelsea, Florida’s Miami USA, Barcelona, Frankfurt and Marbella. Rob had two short spells as an artist in residence at ascot studios contemporary art Gallery in Lancashire selling work successfully alongside Margaret Francis, James Naughton, Paul Stone, Colin Halliday and Angela Wakefield; Rob has enjoyed working alongside Spanish and Portuguese artists Eli Martin and Manuel Casa Branca for 2 years painting in Andalucía and Portugal. He is currently the resident artist and Gallery Director here at the Artisan Fine Art Gallery NW.
